Field Closures
  ▲Top

Regarding Field Closures:

The foreman who checks all the fields follows a procedure set out and agreed to by Youth and Senior Soccer

1. The weather forecast for the weekend is looked up on the internet on Friday morning and printed off for the record.

2. The foreman goes out to each field early on Friday morning and assesses the situation to see if each field can take 2 days of soccer play. If the field is wet and soggy, puddling or soft underfoot it may be closed depending on the weekend weather forecast. This is mostly for the protection of the field, but also for the protection of the players.

3. The foreman, upon gathering all information phones the City of North Vancouver and West Vancouver to work on a collaborative decision. When more than 80% of the fields need to be closed down, all the fields are closed. (This was a request of the soccer groups as it was hard to schedule games on a few open grass fields)

4. The foreman from both City and District municipalities phone in the field closure decisions to the Recreation Field Allocator, who puts the information on a voice message by noon.

5. The record for inspection of each field is writtenup by the foreman and filed along with the weather forecast.

Please note that closed means CLOSED! There is no insurance for players, and any coach using a closed field will be liable for repairs as well.

****For details regarding field closures, please call 983-6444 x 503 after noon on Friday
